Common-mode Current Due to Trace and Slit in Ground Plane and Effect of Guard Band

چکیده
The common-mode (CM) current due to a trace near the PCB edge and across a slit in the ground plane is treated experimentally and by FDTD modeling. The width of the slit was 2 mm and the length was varied. The effect of a guard band with a 5 mm width is also discussed. As the slit length becomes longer, |S21| related to the CM current significantly increases. When the slit penetrates to the center of PCB, |S21| becomes almost the same value. As the guard band functions as one of the return paths, it is effective to suppress the CM current when a trace is nearer to the guard band.

Increase of Common-Mode Radiation due to Guard Trace Voltage and Determination of Effective Via-Location
A guard trace placed near a signal line reduces commonmode radiation from a printed circuit board. The reduction effect is evaluated by the imbalance difference model, which was proposed by the authors, when the guard trace has exactly the same potential as the return plane. However, depending on interval of ground connection of the guard trace, the radiation can increase when the guard trace r...
متن کاملEvaluation of EMI Reduction Effect of Guard Traces Based on Imbalance Difference Model
Placing a guard trace next to a signal line is the conventional technique for reducing the common-mode radiation from a printed circuit board. In this paper, the suppression of common-mode radiation from printed circuit boards having guard traces is estimated and evaluated using the imbalance difference model, which was proposed by the authors. To reduce common-mode radiation further, a procedu...
متن کاملReduction of Common-mode Radiation by Terminating Guard Trace with Resistors
A microstrip structure with a narrow return plane generates large common-mode radiation. The guard trace attached near the signal line can reduce common-mode radiation. In general, the guard trace needs a lot of via connections to the return plane for keeping the guard trace grounded. The guard trace with long intervals of vias causes resonance and additional radiation. We propose a novel techn...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling and Experimental Study of Probe-Fed Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) Supported by Finite Circular Ground Plane
Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) have received increased interest in recent years for their potential applications in microwave and millimeter wave communication systems. DRAs are normally used with the support of a ground plane. The radiation and impedance properties therefore depend not only on their physical dimensions and dielectric properties, but also on the size of the ground plane. ...

These values are not serious problems of signal integrity (SI). However, when the power/ground plane is considered as a return current path of the through-hole signal via, the electrical performance of the through-hole signal via ...
